Asafa Powell beats Usain Bolt at DN Galan meet

Asafa Powell beat the world record holder Usain Bolt by just one-hundredth of a second at the DN Galan meet.

He won the 100 meter sprint in 9.88 seconds. Bolt was a little slow out of the starting blocks and almost caught Asafa Powell at the finishing line.

Jaysuma Saidy Ndure from Norway came third and finished with a time of 10.06.

“I was really happy with the race,” Powell said. “My goal was to win. My start was quick and fast. And the speed stayed with me through the finish.

“I’m really looking forward to the Olympics,” he said.

In other events, Dayron Robles continued his good form and won the 110 meter hurdles.

Yelena Isinbayeva set a stadium record in the pole vault, together with Meseret Defar of Ethiopia in the 5,000 meters.

Jeremy Wariner
won the 400 meters in his third straight win. Chris Brown from the Bahamas finished second and Ricard Chambers from Jamaica came in third.
